Today I want to introduce you to five incredible yoginis local to this area; women who I have had the utmost pleasure of studying under, being guided by, and practicing alongside. They have transformed and inspired my own personal practice to no end.
Not just making pretty shapes, these beauties are absolute lighthouses carrying amazing messages worth sharing. Stunning imagery. Powerful prose. The stuff worthy of a adding to your instagram feed.
Man, don’t those photos just do something to you?
I have to be honest – Tahl’s instagram feed is my all time favourite. I barely go a day without checking in with it, mostly because I love how alive the pictures of her and kids make me feel. Here we have a free-spirited, pixie-like Ashtangi who isn’t afraid to strike a pose in a leotard and gum boots alongside her little ones. I don’t know about you – but I think that’s art. I think that’s living. I think that that’s such a modern and powerful take on the practice of the yoga. We all need reminding sometimes that time on our mats doesn’t always have to be about deep discovery. We can release a bit of the seriousness and instead find a giggle or two. That’s what Tahl teaches me. She guides me through my relatively new Ashtanga practice, and although it’s known for it’s discipline and rigidity, with Tahl, Ashtanga is a dream. It’s a playground.
I mean, come on! Look at that smile!
She’s like caramel. A very wise, insightful and grounded caramello koala.
Darci’s gift is that she so seemlessly weaves vulnerability into what is already an incredible teaching style; meeting her students exactly where they are. She is the real deal, the whole deal. Light and dark. Bouyant and contemplative. There is something so very honest about this amazing creature. Simply being in her presence makes you want to tear off your shoes and go running into the forest doing cartwheels and climbing trees, and I think that’s very special, in a world that’s so sweeping. Thank you for taking me under your wing, miss Darci. 🙂
I’ve already shared Michelle in this space before, as one of our Such Different Vixens, but her devotion to this practice, her message, her unwavering presence of positivity on social media (and let’s not forget, these photos!) make it impossible for me not to include her here, as well. 🙂
There’s no doubt about it, not only does this angel have a way with words (just check out her awesome ode to big sister, Michelle), but her classes are like poetry in motion, also. They’re like a dance. And you only have to rise out of savasana after a sweet ninety minutes with this babe as your guide, and gaze around the room to see the looks on everyone’s faces… and you’ll notice, yep, Clare just rocked our world. Time explodes when I roll out my mat in her presence.
So ethereal and of this earth. So present and gob-smackingly gorgeous. There’s this thing that happens to Ourania when she starts teaching yoga – it’s as though she starts channeling words that can’t come from anywhere but the divine. Her voice drips in and out of song, and reverberates through your cells, not disimiliar to tibetan bowls that have just copped a gong. I adore this babe who’s on a mission to spread a message of authenticity and acceptance of the Self. I feel so priveleged to have been taught the teachings of yoga through you, lovely. Thank you.
Please excuse my french, by geez, I am fucking obsessed with sharing the amazing community I’m blessed to live in, with you all. Obsessed and blessed and blissed. This corner of the globe is so rife with love and talent and soul… the absolute least I can do is share as many folks as I can with you.
I really hope you loved this round of Five Soul Faves. If you’d like to give some of your favourite yogis a shout out in the comments, please do! I’d love for you to share this post with your friends, too.
Bowing my head to these women, and to the teachings of yoga. Always.
